History of TweetDeck

Iain Dodsworth released the first version of TweetDeck on July 4, 2008 it was originally an independent Twitter app. Later in 2009, iPhone and iPad version of TweetDeck were released. And by October 2010, a beta version for Android was released. On May 2011 TweetDeck was purchased by Twitter for $25 million. By may 2012 TweetDeckInc. announced that Facebook would no longer be supported on TweetDeck. And by July 2013, TweetDeckshutdown all the android, ios versions of TweetDeck focusing more on its Web version.

TweetDeck for Social Media Marketing

With the help of TweetDeck social media managers can control multiple profiles on Facebook, Twitter and many such platforms. TweetDeck helps business to broadcast the brand as well as message large masses with negligible effort, but broadcasting is just 50% of marketing the social media equation. The another 50% is responding to customers and sharing what the customer is tweeting as well. Retweeting is a method where businesses can build customer relationships. TweetDeck helps in retweeting with simple and effective manner, but the method is slightly different depending on your use. Some use the desktop application on the computer, some use Web browsers or whereas some use their smartphone application.

Desktop Application

Step 1

Launch your TweetDeck application on your PC and select the tweet you want to retweet.

Step 2

Keep your mouse over the user avatar adjacent to the tweet without selecting anything. This would replace the avatar with four small buttons, the lower left of which is a rightward-facing “Retweet” arrow.

Step 3

Click the “Retweet” arrow. Click “Retweet Now” to send the tweet immediately. In case you prefer to make any changes to the retweet, click “Edit Then Retweet.” Edit it and click “Send.”

Web and Chrome

Step 1

Start the TweetDeck Chrome application by using the Google Chrome Web browser, or you can navigate the TweetDeck Web application. In case you are using any browser other than Google Chrome. Locate the tweet to retweet.

Step 2

Hover the mouse over your tweet and click the “Retweet” button that would appear. The button will not be labeled but can be identified easily by the two arrows one would be facing upward and the other would be facing downward.

Step 3

Click the “Retweet” arrow. Click “Retweet Now” to send the tweet immediately. In case you prefer to make any changes to the retweet, click “Edit Then Retweet.” Edit it and click “Send.”

Mobile App

Step 1

Launch the TweetDeck mobile application on your smartphone device and locate the tweet that you want to retweet.

Step 2

Tap on the tweet. This will display it in a different screen inside the TweetDeck app.

Step 3

Tap “Retweet.” If you need you can edit the tweet and then tap on “Send.” If the retweet consists of more than 140 characters or you want to use Twitter’s standard retweet format, tap on “Retweet Classic” you could find that at the top of the screen and change it to “Retweet New,” and then tap “Send.”

TweetDeck Keyboard shortcuts

TweetDeck has some amazing keyboard shortcuts that would help you to use the app.

The following are the shortcuts work on TweetDeck:

  • A: Add a column
  • S: Search
  • N: New Tweet
  • CTRL/CMD+return: Send new Tweet
  • ESC: Close pop-up/cancel search
  • ?: Show keyboard shortcut list

You can also navigate Tweets using the these shortcuts:

  • 1-9: Navigate through columns 1 to 9
  • 0: go to last column on the right
  • Left arrow key: Move selection left
  • Right arrow key: Move selection right
  • Up arrow key: Move selection up
  • Down arrow key: Move selection down
  • Return/Enter: Opens selected Tweet
  • Backspace/ Delete: go back to the main column
  • R: Directly reply to Tweet from a column
  • T: Directly retweet a Tweet from a column
  • F: Favorite the Tweet
  • D: DM the Tweet author
  • P: Show user profile for Tweet author.

        Hi Manoj,

        You can start posting on Twitter using hashtags. You need to find out your industry oriented hashtags which you can use which would indirectly help your post to reach your customers. Use a hashtag specific to the event to keep conversations focused.

        Seasonal Hashtags – You can use hashtags such as #MothersDay to insert your business into the discussion.

        You can also go for paid promotions on twitter where you can target your audience which would help you to promote your business. You can use Tweetdeck which is the most powerful Twitter tool for real-time tracking, organizing, and engagement.
