Whether you an entrepreneur or a running a family business, you can’t deny the power of digital presence. With the increasing competition in the digital space, you need to better your webpage to improve your search rankings. Better the rank implies more number of visitors giving you a higher chance of converting more and more leads into prospect customers. So all you need now is some guidance, some free SEO optimization tips that you can use for free. A lot of the SEO is all about taking some corrective measures to improve web page crawl-ability but you have to remember it takes time for ratings to improve.

Now here are some DIY tips for you to make your business rank better in searches engines:

  • First and foremost, you must remember, Keywords are the KEY. Keywords are the basic definition for your website for a search engine. They help search engines to know who are you and what is this website all about, so that relevant audience can be directed there. However they can be easily abused. You should ideally chose the keyword in your mind but a readable copy is more preferred. One thing you need to remember is that with the increasing efficiency and up-gradations of various search engine programs, Search bots are getting smarter and smarter. And therefore they do not require a lot of keywords to know your content and most of them are designed to rank quality content over quantity. So you need to keep this in mind and write content from the viewpoint of a user not a search engine.
  • Another important thing you need to keep in mind is that you need to place your keywords in places other than just the body of your content. For example Page title, Page addresses, embedded file names. Do it as long as you are not overdoing it.
  • Next improvement area we can look at is the images. Be careful about the size of the image as it is responsible for the loading times. The faster the page the better rank it gets. You can simply look at the image size and choose sizing solution through any graphic package application or any image optimization app.
  • The next focus area should be the headings of the content. The headings in appropriate places can really help to improve your search ranks. Out of the six different heading types in HTML ( H1 to H6),  H1 should only be used once per page. The rest of the headings can be nested under one another. This may seem unimportant but a definite outlaying like this makes content crawling consistent for search engines making your ranks better.
  • Use Your Keywords in as Many Incoming Links as Possible which means you need to place your focus keywords on most of the incoming links to your post. You have to remember that SEO is all about proper site and linkage building.
  • Grow your outbound and inbound links at a moderate pace. Do not over do it by using some automated program. Build up slowly and steadily else google can sense pattern and may derank you.
  • Now for a better growth you can Reach out to bloggers in your field to get some inbound links from relevant sources of your field. You can also offer testimonials to the website or service you use.
  • Set up google alerts to know about mentions of your company.
  • Create local listings on Yelp, Google and Facebook preferably with rich content like images, Photos etc. Google has a great focus on returning local content first to the user which gives a good advantage to listed places.
  • Make sure that your website is optimized to the mobile devices and is mobile friendly. Google favors the mobile friendly websites and If your website is engaging, people will spend more time there, which eventually lowers your bounce rate making you rank good. (Bounce rate is the percentage of site visitors who leave after viewing just one page.)
  • Don’t focus all your attention on the google only. You should also think about maybe YouTube which is the 2nd largest search engine right now. And Videos often get the greatest visibility in Google rankings compared to other forms of content.
  • Remember to use Google’s free tools. These tools like Google Analytics and Google Webmaster can provide you with a lot of insight about the traffic patterns, keywords which are driving in traffic, common ladings on your website and a lot of other information.
  • Last but not the least, marketing comes into the picture. You can create a page with great content and awesome looks but you can not expect people to know about the page until unless you tell them about it. You need to use each and every medium and tactic at your disposal ranging from email to social media to word of mouth. You need to tell people about your page and market it.
