Mohit kumar puriMohit Kumar Puri wasn’t very bright in studies but smart enough to clear all examination as required. He completed his graduation in computers from Dibru College (Assam) and followed it with an MBA in Marketing from IMT, Ghaziabad.

He backs his skills with 13+ years of expertise in the digital advertising industry and has worked in all profiles as possible, climbing the ladder from the extreme bottom.

Mohit works in an internet based European insurance firm – Admiral Technologies, Gurgaon with whom he is employed for last 7-8 years. During the period, he sharpened by digital optimization skills and are very much available to be shared among common masses.

How did you get into Digital Marketing? What interested you in learning Digital Marketing?

Mohit: Digital Marketing as a career opportunity was never planned. I completed my graduation way back in 2002 from the beautiful hilly state of Assam. Then, I migrated to Delhi and after initial few months of hard struggle, I joined Indiamart.com as a link builder. It wasn’t used to be as big a brand as it is at present and working environment was quite strict. However, I don’t complaint the same as it made me realize how difficult it is to earn some money to make your livelihood & also how important is it to contribute to the success wheel of a business, in order for it to continue feeding you.

Marketing is always interesting and digital marketing was no different. Over the years, this industry has matured enough and requires multi skills.

According to you, what are the advantages of conventional marketing over Digital Marketing? Do you think that Digital Marketing is a threat to the future of conventional marketing?

Mohit: Conventional marketing is far superior in its reach and audience in developing countries like India. In advanced continents of USA and Europe, both digital and conventional form of marketing goes hand on hand.

It’s a myth that digital marketing is a threat to conventional marketing. Both has its own audience and strengths. The future lies in the expertise to find a right mix of blend for both and exploit the market to its fullest.

Share about your 3 favorite Digital Marketing case studies. What did you like most about them?

Mohit:

  • Experiment and shoot conversion rate

Optimization is never ending and I realized same while working on a project as per current employment. Challenge and you may end up surprising yourself.  Through constant experiments, we managed to shoot up our conversion rate by as much as 5%.

  • Creating a new search industry

Offline advertising is still way strong and has a massive audience. Based on learnings conducted through working on a project, an entire new search vocabulary could be generated through a well-planned TV advertising campaign.

According to you, what are the top 3 mistakes committed by organizations today in leveraging Digital Marketing?

Mohit:

  • Digital Marketing is enough

This according to me is the topmost mistake committed by digital marketing organizations. Efforts on digital marketing maximises a fold with offline marketing if planned with the right approach.

  • Smaller budgets on digital marketing as compared with Online Marketing

Smaller budgets can never yield as much result on digital marketing as offline. However depending on the industry, you may focus all of your spent online.

  • Non-evaluation of enough expertize as required

Digital marketing expertise needs to be evaluated at a broader level than evaluating into specialized digital marketing streams such as PPC, SEO. Hire a digital marketing expert but not just a PPC/SEO consultant.

Between Agencies and In-house, which approach would you recommend for maximum value of Digital Marketing? Why?

Mohit: I always prefer in-house as you can control same with the best practices nurtured with experience.

Which are your 3 favorite Digital Marketing Tools?

Mohit:

  • Visual Website Optimizer/Optimizely
  • WordPress Plugins

    Mohit: Avinash Kaushik

How do you see Digital Media evolving in future? What are the top 3 trends do you foresee for 2016?

Mohit: Digital media is growing rapidly. People are spending more and more time on internet than TV. This in turn is bound to increase digital advertising expenses massively.

However, I would advise you to plan digital advertising expenses carefully. Not all channels will yield a direct call to action and it may get very difficult for you to actually calculate marketing effectiveness.
