To keep the connected generation updated about the news, technological updations, resources and other set of information, one of the most popular and widely read online news community -Mashable has decided to expand in India.

Namaste Mashable is the tagline that clearly indicates the association of this profoundly used online news community and blog with a site in India. This initiative is in continuation with Mashable’s expansion drive on the global front. More so, this is the next step in Mashable’s evolution as a global media brand.

Mashable’s founder, Pete Cashmore announced there partnership with Zee Entertainment which will be backed by India.com primarily for local content and distribution. Not only this, they also have great plans to set-up their very own editorial teams at country’s capital New Delhi and Mumbai very soon. This will primarily be done so as to create an Indian social media pressence and thus launch a dedicated site for Mashable India.

Having said that, the sole reason why this initiative was taken-up was that at present, India already possess 300 million internet users and is anticipated to have over 650 million smartphone users in the next 5 years. Moreover, as the literacy rate is increasing, thus the need for fresh, unique and interesting content is always on the rise. This is the primary reason why the readers wish to get their content delivered at the right place and in the real time, especially on the phone and that should be easily accessible through a single tap or click.

Since India is witnessing the likely implications of the digital revolutionary everyday, is the primary reason why Mashable opted to spread its presence in India as well. The latest instance wherein the role of social media was extremely relevant and impactful was in the elections that were held recently. Extensive use of social media and mobile reflected the celebrations of the digital ‘victory wall’.

Mashable identified India as its next destination when referred to global expansion drive and a natural place to grow because the combination of technology and digital media with the culture and society is just perfect. Moreover, India ranks as one of the top five markets worldwide that look up to Mashable’s content.

Thus, Mashable is all set and geared-up to strengthen its presence in India by adding dedicated resources in the country along with their partner India.com so as to localize the business for the Indian audience. This is a joint venture between Penske Media Corporation (PMC) and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. and a leader in the Indian digital media industry spread across the news, entertainment, video channels and more.
