In this new framework of Google’s search algorithm, the focus is more on the optimization of SEO strategies. Sites have been affected by recent and future upcoming algorithmic updates. We should focus on improving search visibility. There are several strategies used to create more signals back to individual’s website assets. The planning should be properly mapped to improve the performance of web pages when it comes to search. We should understand the bigger picture of search trends. There is a rise in search engine results page, SERP. Google is trying to answer a lot of the queries themselves, and that can mean they are taking away traffic from us, or it can mean, there’s an opportunity to get into those features or answers. The trend started with Hummingbird and now continued with RankBrain around intent. Google has been harping on multi-device speed and user experience. Multi-visit of buyers is important.

Two major components of SEO

There are two major components of SEO:

  • On Page SEO
  • Off Page SEOon-page-and-off-page-seo

On-Page SEO refers to settings we can apply on our website to optimize search engines. We should optimize titles, descriptions, use proper URL structures, make user-friendly navigation.

Off-Page SEO is one of the major parts of search engine optimization. There are several techniques used to improve page rank in the search engine results page. Off Page takes place outside the page. We should build good quality links with good authority sites by which we can rank higher on SERP.

In this post, I’m going to describe Off-Page SEO strategies. These strategies are:

1.) SEO and Social Media Conjunction:

The Google search bots may not crawl into social media pages; in the same way they crawl to regular web pages. We find that the more engaged social media pages, thriving with shares and engagement, tend to do better. The more shares we get, the more people we have enjoying our posts. Most of us are running multi-channel marketing strategies. We post links to relevant news stories also, making sure to share our own homegrown content at least once per week. It’s much easier to focus on a promotion run solely through Facebook, but these days, marketers are running the same campaign across email, PPC, social media and mobile. We should do A/B testing for campaign efficiency and make informed decisions based on campaign analytics. We can use a tool like Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Buffer to advance schedule our posts. Search engines like Google take social signal as an important metric for ranking web pages.

2.) Mobile Site Optimization: 

Mobile site is little sluggish. It has not been a top priority. Google has started AMP project which shifted to mobile device speed. Even a one-second delay in loading time results in 7% reduction in conversion. Google claims that the Accelerated Mobile Pages project can help us in improving loading speeds by 15% to 85%. There are plenty of resources to help us get started or we can work with digital marketing consultants to help our mobile site meet the standards. The influencing factors are optimization for mobile, quality content, voice search, microformats, artificial intelligence.

3.) Mobile App Streaming: 

Mobile friendly sites and Mobile Apps have been very valuable tools. They are not mutually exclusive. They serve different purposes. Mobile sites are aimed at bringing in fresh prospects. Mobile apps are about retention and rewarding patrons with a steady stream of content to maintain loyalty. 70% of traffic comes from mobile users. Google’s App Streaming service can show relevant content from apps without downloading anything. 65% of the time is spent by an individual on consuming media via smartphones, 85% of the time on smartphones within apps. 50% of small businesses are planning to have a mobile app in this new year 2017.

4.) Social Community Group: 

Engagement with our social community is a very important aspect when we want our social community to share our content viral. We should provide as much value as we can to our followers so that they become loyal to us and love to share our content. We should note that almost all links we get from social media sites are no follow but this does not mean that they do not have any value. It is also a form of link building. Social media mentions are gaining ground as ranking factors and proper configuration of social media profiles can also boost SEO. We should try to become a member of the most popular social networking sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter etc and create a community group. In this way, we can extend our network online, share things with each other and promote our company or website to build an online reputation.

5.) Blog Posts: 

We should write a blog of our own for our company or website and include lots of unique content. 6.) Forum Posting: 

We can create a forum or online discussion board of our own and start a discussion or share topics with our friends. We can also post or reply to a thread in other service related pre-existing forums that allow links in our signature which can be crawled by the search engines.

7.) Social Bookmarking: 

Social Bookmarking is an another powerful way of promoting our website. Many of us do not know how to use them, which leads to spamming social bookmarking sites. We can do social bookmarking on popular sites like Digg, Delicious, StumbleUpon, Propeller, etc. We need to be very careful while doing this and we should properly handle the tags which are essential to broadcast our news on a wide area network. This may increase our website traffic based on how effectively we have participated.

8.) Social Media Engagement: 

We can make our business, website or blog popular by engaging people on social media platforms. Social media presence will help grow our business and also help us to get more back links. The top social networking sites are Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, etc. We can set contest campaigns. 

9.) Exchange of Links: 

The exchange links with service related websites, commonly termed as Thematic Link Exchange. This can help in increase of our link popularity. This can be a major factor in Google’s Page Rank algorithm. We need to be careful of Black Hats while doing exchanges.

10.) Link Baiting: 

We should place website link as a reference of websites, from where we have copied or published another website news or content in our blog or website. In this way our content becomes trustworthy. This is another way to increase link popularity.

11.) Cross-Linking: 

We should link our internal pages using targeted keyword as anchor text. This strategy can often be hard to implement. These types of links have more weight from a search engine point of view. This increases our link popularity, which is another major factor of Google Page Rank algorithm.

12.) Photo Sharing: 

We can share or publish our website product pictures and make them public. We can ask our friends to comment on them too, which will help drive traffic towards our website. We can use photo sharing websites like Flickr, Picasa, Photo Bucket, Picli, Tumblr, Instagram, Imgur, etc.

13.) Video Promotions: 

We can publish and share our product videos, expert opinions, and reviews of our product and make them public on YouTube, Metacafe, Dailymotion, Vimeo, Vine, Hulu, etc.

14.) Local Listings and Yellow Pages: 

We can make our website local so that search engines can easily view our website content. This will help us to reach a targeted audience. We can submit our website to Google local, Maps, Yahoo local, Yellow Pages, Superpages, Hotfrog, etc.

15.) Press Release Promotion: 

We should go for PR submission,  while we are promoting our business or acting as a service provider. We can use popular PR websites like 1888pressrelease, Open PR, PR Leap, etc. This will help us to publish our site in Google News.

We can submit our website to reputed business directories and show it to the local audience as well as the global audience. We should participate in Question and Answers. We can ask relevant questions and place a link to our website in the source section. This is another great way to increase our link popularity.

It shows all inbound links. We can scan our highest authority inbound links for an opportunity to get other similar links.

  • An increase in Rankings: 

The website will rank higher in the SERPs. This will also mean more visitors to our website.

  • An Increase in Page Rank: 

Page Rank is a number between 0 and 10. It indicates the importance of a website in the eyes of Google. Higher ranking also means greater exposure. It is a never ending sequence of events where one thing leads to another and then another, etc.
