For all of you who want to get your first email campaign out quickly, this guide Quick Start Guide To Email Marketing includes the basics on how to create and send your campaign using VerticalResponse.

Open Your Free VerticalResponse Account

The very first basic step is to have a Vertical Response account. It is very easy to sign up, Verify your account and you will be ready to go in few minutes.

Upload Your List

VerticalResponse has made this process very user-friendly. You can find the new list link under the contacts tab in your which will guide you through the process step by step.

  • Naming the list – Give a particular name to recognize your list (such as School Friends, Email campaign 1 etc.) you will have the option to select a check box for people to sign up and add them into your list automatically.
  • Adding contacts – You need to have an email id database (often termed as list) in either Comma Separated Values (.csv) or Text Tab Delimited (.txt) format before you can upload it. You can have a excel spreadsheet exported as a .csv document as well. There are several options for adding contacts. You can use the following formats: .xls, .xlsx, .csv or .txt. (Max size is 100MB) or enter the email address manually.
  • After you have uploaded your list, Save and Exit.

Creating Email

  • Click on the messages tab and on your right you will find Create Email Campaign. You will have various options of templates in few seconds. You can pick a template which is there, edit it or even create your own template as per your requirement (Newsletter/Sale/Invitation/Thank you etc.)
  • Add a header which will behave as your subject line, create your content as per your need.
  • If you already have a HTML code in place, you can also copy and paste the codes to make it easier.
  • Preview the email to check the alignment and also check the preview in mobile devices.
  • Send a test mail (which will go to your registered Email address), check if the links are working and review the content.
  • Click the next button and select your audience. Here is where you get to select the list which you have named and created. You will either have an option of sending it now or schedule an appropriate time to target your audience.

Analytics and monitoring

Once your email is sent, you’ll immediately begin seeing reporting that tells you who opened your email, clicked on links (and which links they clicked), bounced and unsubscribed. To do so, view your sent emails and click on the email you want to see reporting details about.

Hope this Quick Start Guide To Email Marketing helps you create emails quickly.
