Why On page optimization is important?

On page optimization is one of the ideal component of Search Engine Optimization that allows website to rank higher in search engine result pages for their desired key phrases and outrank their customers. It is important to gain visibility in search engine results. Without optimising title tags, meta tags, URLs and page copy we can never rank good on google. Keywords Research

Keyword research is an essential component of on page optimization as it is foundation for any successful SEO Campaign.

  • keywords should be relevant to business or service offering.
  • keyword and content on the website should be of similar theme.
  • There are various tools that help to research relevant keywords like Google keyword Planner, Wordstream’s Keyword tool, Soovle tool etc.

  • Enter category or root keywords
  • Or enter the URL of website
  • Or select the category of business

Tags- Role in On page optimization

Title Tags:
  •  Title tag is the most important tag and the first things the search engines read
  • Google typically displays the first 50-60 characters of a title tag, or as many characters as will fit into a 512-pixel display. If you keep your titles under 55 characters, you can expect at least 95% of your titles to display properly
  • Title should be explained on each page uniquely of the services/information being offered/given respectively
  •  Google puts more weight on words found in the beginning of your title tag

  • Important keywords should be placed closed to the front of title

Description Tag:
  • Meta descriptions can be any length, but search engines generally truncate snippets longer than 160 characters. It is best to keep meta description between 150 and160 characters.
  •  Description Tag should be used like an ad-copy
  • Description tags should be able to inform, engage, unique/compelling & clearlycommunicatesthe‘calltoaction’

Heading Tag:

Headings tags help human readers and serach engine spiders to understand the content better and focus on key themes.
Heading tags can be classified into the following –

  • H1:syntaxis<h1>headingcontent</h1>
  •  H2:syntaxis<h2>headingcontent</h2>
  •  H3:syntaxis<h3>headingcontent</h3>
  •  H4:syntaxis<h4>headingcontent</h4>
  • H5:syntaxis<h5>headingcontent</h5>
  • H6:syntaxis<h6>headingcontent</h6>

There can be more than one Heading tags but should be used carefully and only where it makes sense to highlight

ALT tags

Search engine can not read and understand images. They need to be told about the images used on the web

  • alternate tags or alt tags is a syntax used in an HTML to explain the images used.
  • search engines refer to ‘alt tags’ to read and index the images and consider to rank against relevant query

What if image does not have a purpose?

If your images only have design purpose then you can give them empty alt attribute, like so

URL naming- Use in On page optimization

  •  Url naming convention name should ideally include meaningful words
  • In between two words, use (-) to separate. One should not use underscores, spaces, or any other characters to separate words.
  • URLs must be shorter than 2083 characters to render in Internet Explorer (4-8)

Anchor Text- Essence in On page Optimization

  • A visible, clickable text which is hyper linked is Anchor Text
  • It is important to establish unique theme for each pages.
  • This helps build relevance and helps in link building

Cross Linking- Use in On page Optimization

  •  It is the process of linking between pages or sites
  • It is the process on which internet is built
  • Correct words should be used as anchor text to cross link two contents.
  •  It allow users to reference to other sites with similar contents or content of their interests.

Broken Links

  •  If clicking on a page does not lead to another working  page, it is called as broken links
  • It is important to diagnose these links and fix them.
  • These links break the journey of Search engine spiders and hence they could not crawl the pages of website.

these links are not good for the reputation of website.

Robots.txt

  •  This file tells the search engine robots how to crawl and index pages on the website.
  • In order to be useful it has to be placed in top-level directory of a web server

Robots.txt file instructs these programs not to search pages on your site which you designate using a “disallow” command. It basically tells crawlers which pages to be crawled or which to be blocked.

Sitemap

  • It shows quick, easy to follow overview of site.
  • provides a pathway for search engine to follow
  • It provides text links to every page of your site
  • Help visitors to show how to get where they need to go
  • It Utilizes important keyword phrases.

XML Sitemap

  • It includes all the urls of website
  • It gives search engine priority information
