Step 15: Activate Google Analytics

Set your website to measure all critical metrics

Why & What

Google Analytics is a freemium (free and premium versions) web analytics service offered by Google that tracks and reports website traffic.

Google Analytics allows you to see how many people visit your site, what pages they go to, and where they are coming from. It also allows you to create specific campaigns, goals, funnels, and reports that builds actionable data sets and provides key insight into otherwise vague data.

You activate Google Analytics by adding a piece of Javascript in your website HTML code that loads when someone visits your page. When working in WordPress, you can use a plugin that can perform the required steps without diving in to the actual code.

Note that you must have a Gmail account for configuring Google Analytics. Also, you must be logged in before executing these steps.

Steps to Follow

Search and install the Google Analytics by Yoast plugin.

From the Dashboard, go to Analytics > Settings.

Click Authenticate with your Google account.

The Request for Permission popup appears.

Click Allow.

The Google Analytics authentication code is generated:

Copy the COMPLETE code and close the popup.

You return to the Settings page:

Paste the copied code and click Save authentication code.

Back at the Settings page, select the Analytics profile named All Web Site data…:

Click Save Changes.
