Step 3: Create a compelling profile

When you read someone’s tweet, along with the tweet, you also see profile photo, name & twitter handle of the person:

If you hover over the person photo, you can also check out his bio, background image & account statistics

In order to ensure that you get better response on twitter, you need to have relevant Photo, background image & Bio. Your statistics will build up over a period of time.

Selecting the relevant Photo.

  • Will you follow anyone without a photo. Why? Because the absence of a photo may menas a spammer or a newbie. People wants to talk to people on twitter. It is very critical that you are personalizing your twitter account. You need to have either your image or your brand image or some avtar image in your profile.
  • The simplest and most personal way to go for an avatar is a photograph of your face looking straight into the lens. Avoid funny angles or having anything else in the photo. Crop it into a square, but don’t shrink it down. You want people to be able to click on it and see the larger version.
  • If you own a company and want to use your brand as your avatar instead of a photograph, this is perfectly acceptable. However, using random graphics or images as your avatar can give the impression of a face or spam account, so they are not recommended.

Selecting the relevant bio

Many people will read your Twitter bio before deciding whether to follow you or not. A good written bio can help you get much more followers than a poorly written bio. Your Bio can be the positioning statement that you have selected in the previous step or a shorter version of the same. Your Twitter bio can only include 160 characters.

Selecting the Location, URL for your further information

In the URL section, you can think of using a custom About page. Your Twitter bio can only include 160 characters. It’s not much room to tell your story or introduce people to all you offer. Consider creating a custom About page on your blog and linking to it on Twitter. Then, when the prospective follower clicks on that link, they will find a page you have created just for them.

Guidelines:

  1. Optimize your Twitter bio. Users who want to find out more about you will inevitably visit your Twitter bio. Make sure it’s professional, complete and that it does a great job of representing you and your business.
