Do you want to help build a website and your online presence that will thrive even with the next Google trick? Are you looking for top rankings, lower bounce rate and quality rankings? Does it sound familiar? Read more about 10 SEO  mistakes that bloggers must be aware of.

1. Stop splurging on links

Avoid using those link building services that offer hundreds of links for a cheap price. Paid links violate Google’s guidelines and Google will penalize websites that use too many links that are inserted to gain traffic in the shortest period of time. If suddenly one day 100’s of paid links appear on a website, then this activity can be flagged as “irregular linking activity”. Furthermore, if totally unrelated category of links has been used it would seem suspicious. The best way to increase buzz about a blog is to stick to comment links and that too manually.

2. Avoid linking to questionable poor quality websites

Following unauthorized and unsolicited SEO guides who advise a blogger to visit their website/blog and post comments might get a link in return. However they might end up with a link of a website which is not performing well in search results. The blog may also be in Google’s blacklist or may have been penalized.

4043. Not repairing broken links

Ignoring “404 error” is the worst ever mistake that a blogger can commit. These errors can be easily detected by several specialized tools and can be fixed just as easily. Even WordPress has link checker to fix such errors.

4. Plagiarism and SEO

Don’t assume worrying about plagiarism is history after graduating from University, because Google takes it just as seriously and also penalizes websites/blogs containing copied content. Having good quality and structured content increases website traffic, reduces bounce rate and enhances user experience. Thus plagiarism could be a road block for SEO.

5. Backlinks

Building backlinks by using specialized software is easily detectable by Google and heavily penalized. Greedy webmasters build a network of backlinks which get blacklisted by Google.

As Ads bring easy money, webmasters tend to overload their website with ads. This unnecessary jungle of ads creates a bad impression on visitors and leads to a higher bounce rate and reduced traffic.

7. Keyword Density

Monitor your keyword density; ensure that it’s not more than 5%. Avoid stuffing the content with unnecessary keywords, as higher density makes the page difficult to read. Avoid stuffing similar words in the Meta keyword tags. Google and Bing do not recognize this tag; however the added density can make matters worse when Google releases its next update to Panda. A simple solution for this mistake could be to create different pages for different keywords and optimizing them separately.

8. Ignoring Google Webmaster tools

This is an invaluable and freely available online tool from Google. It has a lot of inbuilt modules for checking links, backlinks, errors, keyword search, page impressions and other site related problems. Using this tool can help in optimization efforts, increasing visibility and improving search engine ranks.

9. Avoid nulled WordPress templates

These templates and themes might have hidden links, malicious codes and can link to good or bad websites. It is necessary to check whether such links are present in the site codes. The themes and templates are licensed by developers and if it’s violated by bloggers then developers can report to the Google DMCA and get a blog/website penalized.

10. Not optimizing Title and Meta description tags

Meta descriptions are important parts of SEO and should be composed carefully. These 2 elements are visible in the search engine results; therefore, must be optimized. The title tags should be clean and contain all the keywords necessary for ranking the page. Compose a unique title tag with at least one punctuation mark. Title tag length should be less than 70 characters, whereas the description tag length could be around 160 characters. Also if title tags are similar on many pages then there will be Meta tag description errors and that can be a costly mistake.
