Social media allows businesses, especially the ones on a smaller scale that do not have the luxury and deep pockets of big businesses to invest in heavy ATL or BTL activities, communicate with their customers in a more personal way to build effective business-customer relationships.

You need to make sure that your efforts are directed towards enhancing your presence and social interactions with your clients. Following are few tips that should be taken care by small businesses while entering the realm of social media.

1. Always plan the social media marketing strategy before starting.

It doesn’t matter what is the size of your business, to be successful on social media you need to have a strong and concrete social media marketing strategy. You need to have a concrete plan complemented by right execution. Make a roadmap of the objectives and the path you will follow, apart from the tools you need, to meet your marketing goals.

Your plan should clearly define how this small business of yours is going to integrate existing marketing strategies with social media marketing strategies. There are few important points that one have to consider before initiating such integration:

  • You need to decide that who from your company will be responsible for creating different accounts and profiles. Also the details of people from the organisation who will be having access to these accounts.
  • You need to choose tools that will be helpful in automating the process of social media marketing. You also need to find analytics tools that will assist you in tracking success.
  • You need to review the current marketing strategies of your small business at the same time also decide which area would be most benefited from a social media expansion.

If a user complains regarding your services like shipping, handling or packaging do not try to ignore it or settle it outside the social media network. Keeping the conversation public, on a personal level and dropping the corporate tone can have better impact and favourable solutions to problems.

Encourage the customers in your social group by asking for their opinions, suggestions and direct questions. These activities gives a feeling to the customers that you are listening and valuing their comments.
