A Government of India initiative, Digital India will integrate the people of the country and the Government departments. The Digital India project primarily aims at offering a one-stop solution for all the government services wold use the mobile phones as the support of their delivery mechanism. With this initiative, the Government of India anticipates Rs. 1.13 lakh crore to be sought so as to transform the country such that India turns out to be a connected economy. This would fetch more investment in the manufacturing of electronics, thus not not only supporting trade but also creating millions of job opportunities as well.

In such a scenario, the impact of digital media will be very impactful. More so, according to Budget 2015, it is evident that project campaigns viz. Digital India and ‘Make in India’ will be highly driven by the tax reforms and investments. This is an indicative factor that plenty of fresh business opportunities will be generated for the IT professionals.

The Telecom Minsiter, Ravi Shankar Prasad stated that “We want to ensure that all the services can be provided through a mobile handset, especially, health, education, various government services and retail. We want it (handset) to be used as a tool for empowerment. We will need to incentivize its usage in order to promote the social and the economic objectives of the government.”

One of the key pre-budget expectation of the IT industry is incentivizing IT players who invest in ‘Digital India’ and ‘Make in India’ campaigns. Moreover, the Digital India project that promises to transform India and turn it into a connected knowledge economy offering world-class services at the click of a mouse will shortly be implemented in phases.

In the wake of creating a tech-savvy environment wherein, there is lack of a sturdy network infrastructure, the IT industry looks forward to set aside a chunk of the budget especially for creating strong technical framework.

Moreover, it is essential that to transform the lives of people residing in India by making them digital, a substantial amount is supposed to be put aside so as to develop a strong infrastructural set-up. Also, there are speculations that there will be tax reduction for IT payers, who will be the key factors in making this network infrastructure a realizable one.

This move should also pave way for efficient implementation of e-governance projects by incentivizing investments in world-class data centres and cloud computing infrastructure besides a chance to be in the domain of Internet of Things.
