Nitya interview 1

Nitya 1

Nitya Rambhadran is from Pune. She started working in a BPO sector while pursuing her graduation in Commerce.

After working in the BPO industry for 8 years and having worked with different organizations during that period, it started getting very monotonous for her. Hence, she decided to switch her career.  While doing the research for the best Digital Marketing training institutes, she came across Digital Vidya.

Currently, she has two years of experience in the Digital Marketing field (mainly Google Adwords). She has her own website where she writes Inspirational & Travel Blogs (lyfwin.co.in) and also has a YouTube channel by the name of Lyfwin. Through, working on her website, she has got a good understanding of Google Analytics, SMM and SEO.

Importance of Digital Marketing – In today’s world, knowing Digital Marketing skills is a boon. Due to many branches that this field has, one gets an opportunity to choose his/her career.

They can become a freelancer, choose a specific domain and do a job in that or use it to expand their business. It’s an individual choice as this field (Digital Marketing) is an ocean and has many avenues. Few things that I learned from Digital Marketing are-

(i) Buyer’s persona (who is the audience for a particular product/service)

(ii)Creating PPC Campaigns

(iii) Understanding Analytics & Reports

(iv) Writing better Content

(v) Discovering my creative side

(vi) Using different platforms (like Facebook, Pinterest, Google Ads)

This is an ever growing industry and it’s important to be updated with the latest trends as the tools & algorithms keep changing.

Which course of Digital Vidya did you participate in? How did it help you acquire new skills related to digital marketing?

Nitya Rambhadran: I did the Certified Digital Marketing Master (CDMM) Course & gave my V-Skill exam as well and successfully completed both of them. This course was very helpful as it covers all the features of Digital Marketing like SEO, SMM, SEM, Email Marketing, and Inbound Marketing.

I also had special classes for other topics like How to start a blog or How to create your website. This course has been really instrumental in shaping up my career because I decided to start blogging & the YouTube Channel only after doing this course. Definitely, I have an advantage over others, who have a similar niche, like mine but do not understand Digital Marketing.

Why did you choose Digital Vidya’s course?

Nitya Rambhadran: I wanted to do Digital Marketing from a renowned institute. While researching for the ‘best institutes for a Digital Marketing ’ course, I got to know about Digital Vidya as one of the best Digital Marketing institutes across Asia.

Initially, while going through the website, I thought that I will only do Social Media Marketing course, but, Saurabh Mathur (Digital Vidya’s Sales team) spoke to me and made me see the advantage of doing CDMM course & I decided to do it. He also understood my financial constraints (as I was going through a difficult time financially), & gave me EMI options which were really helpful.

How has the course contributed to your career growth including new job opportunities?

Nitya Rambhadran: As I said in my video interview as well, doing this course has been the best decisions of my life. While doing the Search Engine Marketing module from Digital Vidya, I was already working for Google Adwords.

I learnt so much about the subject that I could implement in my job. It not only improved my performance but also got me a lot of appreciation from the client.

I created a website through WordPress where I write inspirational & travel blogs (www.lyfwin.co.in), along with that, I also started my YouTube channel and intend to grow both of them using Digital Marketing platforms.

Why do you think it’s important to learn Digital Marketing today?

Nitya Rambhadran: The world is becoming digital. Even a small kid, uses social media these days. A person having knowledge of Digital Marketing definitely has an upper hand. As the field is so humungous &scope of learning is endless. One can either work in a job & eventually get promoted or take his business online & reach unimaginable heights.

Online Marketing has opened many new avenues as a consequence of which more & more people are feeling the need for either learning Digital Marketing or hiring someone so that they can be at par with their competitors.

Share about the benefits you can foresee about building a career in the Digital Marketing industry.

Nitya Rambhadran: Building a career in Digital Marketing can take you to new heights as it opens many unknown avenues.

(i) One can opt to be a freelancer in overall Digital Marketing or a specific domain like SEO, Social Media.

(ii) You can become a Digital Marketing Executive or work in a specific domain like Social Media Marketing Executive.

(v) You can use your Digital Marketing skills to improve performance in your current job.

(vi) You can become a consultant & leverage your services.

(vii) You can become a trainer & start educating people (classroom training as well as online sessions).

How do you stay updated on the latest trends in Digital Marketing? Which are the Digital Marketing resources (i.e. blogs/websites/apps) you visit regularly?

Nitya Rambhadran: Both blogs & videos help me to stay updated with the current Digital Marketing trends. Here are the few, I use regularly:-

(i) Digital Vidya

(ii) Neil Patel (blogs as well as YouTube videos)

(iii) Brian Dean (YouTube videos)

(iv) Moz Blog

(v) Shoutmeloud Blogs

(vi) SEMrush Blogs

(vii) Digital Vidya Facebook Page

Which are your favourite 3 digital media channels (e.g. Twitter, Google etc.) and why?

Nitya Rambhadran: As a Blogger & a You Tuber, it’s imperative for me to keep myself updated & look for opportunities to grow my business. Although there are different platforms to use, in my opinion, 3 of my favourite digital media channels would be:-

YouTube– I can’t emphasise on how much I learn from YouTube on an everyday basis. As someone, who is still learning the ropes, it’s important to constantly improve along with trying out different ways to increase the traffic to the website. Thus, different videos help me understand various platforms & improve them.

Quora– It is a Q &A platform which empowers people to ask questions, share their knowledge along with connecting with people. You can get knowledge about any subject. You can answer any query & users will rank answers based on how relevant they are, this helps you to increase the ranking as well.

Facebook– How can we forget one of the biggest mediums- Facebook? This channel has people ranging from a teenager to an elderly person from 60-65 years. Hence, if the right call-to-action is used, then this medium can help you drive lots of traffic to your site.

You will find diverse digital marketing groups where you can interact with others, thus sharing each other’s tips & tricks of the trade. You can also discover numerous Facebook pages related to digital marketing that would help you gain a lot of wisdom.

Which are your 3 favourite Digital Marketing Tools?

Nitya Rambhadran: I try experimenting with different tools, but 3 of my favourites would be-

(i) Google Analytics & SEM rush for Web Analytics & SEO.

(ii) Pic Monkey& Adobe Spark for a design like Thumbnail, Pins on Pinterest etc.

(iii) Hoot suite for Social Media.

Share the names of 3 people you respect when it comes to Digital Marketing.

Nitya Rambhadran: Pradeep Chopra, Neil Patel and Brian Dean.

What is your advice to newbies who want to build a career in Digital Marketing?

Nitya Rambhadran: According to the statistics, by 2020 there would be a total of 1,80,000 digital marketing jobs available only in India as everyone is transitioning towards the digital world. Therefore, this is the right time to start a career in digital marketing.

As, most of the companies including MNC’s, medium sized or startups, require the help of digital marketers. So there are ample jobs available & the demand is only going to increase.

However, one thing to remember as well as understand is that if you truly love doing this. As I mentioned earlier, this is a rapidly changing field where you would have to keep updated with the latest trends.

So, if you don’t do it with passion & just do it as a job or a way to earn money, you might just get eventually exhausted & leave.

What are the challenges a person is likely to face when s/he enters into the Digital Marketing industry? How can s/he overcome those?

Nitya Rambhadran: Having hands-on experience is always an added advantage, the same goes with digital marketing. A person can get the theoretical knowledge, but s (he) won’t be able to implement it fully unless they have practical knowledge.

You can join as an intern or start freelancing. There are companies who may also hire you as a full-time employee on the basis of your communication skills & teach you digital marketing skills.

One of the biggest challenges, a person feels is to have patience. Many people expect an immediate result which ultimately turns into a disappointment. Few mediums like SEO, SMM may take some time to show the desired results so you have to have the patience which is one of the key elements of Digital Marketing.

And, if you keep learning, sooner or later, you would become a got digital marketer.

One suggestion that has always worked for me would be to stay calm even under intense pressure. You may not be able to find the resolution, as our mind can’t think straight if we are tensed. Therefore, it is better to step out for a bit & you will surely get the resolution.

For someone who’s looking at full time or part time job or an internship in Digital Marketing, what approach would you advise?

Nitya Rambhadran: Many companies look for an experienced candidate as s (he) won’t require much training.

If you are planning to switch your career & move to digital marketing, you might have to compromise on the salary as chances are high that you might be considered as a fresher. But, I would suggest you do it as you need to start somewhere. Slowly & steadily, you will climb the corporate ladder with the experience.

If you are not getting any job in the digital marketing field, you can start something of your own like Blogging, YouTube Channel or some business. You can also start freelancing or help your friends or small business with their online presence. Ultimately, you will start learning all the features of this field.

One can also join varied digital marketing groups/meet to build your network.

Digital media especially Social media channels such as Facebook can eat up a lot of your productive time if not used wisely. Do you agree? What all can one do to efficiently leverage these channels for personal growth?

Nitya Rambhadran: I partially agree with this statement because you can lose a track of time while using Facebook or any social networking sites, if not used appropriately.

However, it stands equally true that we also gain a humongous amount of knowledge from these. It may be a place of fun for a few people, but we need to keep in mind that there are many people making a lot of money through this medium.

Social Media is extremely critical for Bloggers, Social Media Influencers, You Tubers, Photographers and many more. It’s imperative for them to spend time wisely on social media while leveraging it sensibly. It is also necessary for them to understand their audience, goals & which social media platforms would work best for them.

For others, it can be a great place to enhance their knowledge as it is one of the biggest knowledge bases where you can learn a new skill or just upgrade your current skill.

If you were given a chance to rebuild your career, what changes you would have made to have even better growth and fulfilment?

Nitya Rambhadran: Honestly speaking, I wish, I was aware of Digital Marketing before & would have started doing, what I am doing now, 10 years back. Nevertheless, as it is being said, “It is never too late.”

At Present, I would not like to change anything because I know going forward, I am only going to improve as the day passes, gradually adding more feathers to my cap.

How do you see Digital Media evolving in future?

Nitya Rambhadran: Digital Marketing has a very bright future.

Most of the people have started understanding the potential of digital media, however, there are still many people who are unaware of its capabilities. Once, they recognize its benefits, they would start using it.

As Digital Marketing, is growing at a fast pace, people are drifting towards it. Thus, gradually, everyone might start using it otherwise, they will be left behind.
