Sumit Mukherjee has pursued Bachelor of Computer Application from Siliguri Institute of Technology. He basically shifted towards Digital Marketing as it was very new to him and he always had a keen interest in advertisements. He loved the concept of Digital Marketing as it opened a plethora of new opportunities for him and is also quite high in demand now. The importance of Technology was always there in his life and he says that Digital Marketing is a mix of both Technology and Marketing, in short, its Smart Marketing.

Which course of Digital Vidya did you participate in? How did it help you acquire new skills related to digital marketing?

Sumit Mukherjee: I participated in the Certified Digital Marketing Master (CDMM) Course, this course has helped me to know more about Digital Marketing. I only knew about the concept of SEO and Youtube Ads, but after the course, my full perception was towards Digital Marketing was totally changed. There was more in-depth knowledge that I got from the course, I learnt many skills, knew about bidding and strategy as well.

Why did you choose Digital Vidya’s course?

Sumit Mukherjee: Digital Vidya is a very reputed Digital Marketing institute all over India and is the only institute that provides VSkills certificate. To be frank there’s more I would like to say after I entered Digital Vidya. The course was of 6-month. First I thought that 6 months is quite less time to know about something but I was wrong. Teachers here are extremely helpful, they helped me whenever I faced any problem. We do have an LMS account which is very helpful.

How has the course contributed to your career growth including new job opportunities?

Sumit Mukherjee: Two of the Digital Marketing Modules which are SEO and SMO have helped me a lot in my career growth. Special thanks go to SEM course which acts as an add-on for me. This course helped me to identify my hidden potential of a digital marketer and persuaded me to take forward my career as a freelance digital marketer.

Why do you think it’s important to learn Digital Marketing today?

Sumit Mukherjee: India is growing and so are the Digital Platforms. Everything is getting Digital nowadays. People prefer shopping online rather than visiting a store and after JIO came, Digital Growth has increased randomly in India, which is very good as opportunities are increasing. Moreover, with the transformation in the marketing landscape, Digital Marketing is dominating other platforms. Apart from providing awesome marketing and advertising platforms to businesses, digital marketing also provides promising career opportunities to individuals as well.

Sumit Mukherjee: 

(i) In Digital Marketing for career growth, I must admit that Sky is the limit. One can earn as much as one wants.
(ii) One can have their own start-up.
(iii) Job opportunities are more.
(iv) One can work as a freelancer as well.

What is your advice to newbies who want to build a career in Digital Marketing?

Sumit Mukherjee: Digital Marketing has huge potential in the coming years. Many big companies are already & will be investing a huge amount of budget in Digital Marketing. Digital Marketing has already become the top searched jobs. The demand for digital marketing professionals is quite high while the supply is low so it is a good opportunity for individuals to start their career in digital marketing.

What are the challenges a person is likely to face when s/he enters into the Digital Marketing industry? How can s/he overcome those?

Sumit Mukherjee: One should have hands-on experience before getting a digital marketing job. Having some prior experience will make the person comfortable at much less time. One can do freelancing or part-time internship to gain some experience. Everything is practical on job level, hence implementing all the theoretical knowledge is very important.

For someone who’s looking at full time or part time job or an internship in Digital Marketing, what approach would you advice?

Sumit Mukherjee: The companies are looking for candidates who are having prior experience & some work portfolio in the Digital Marketing domain. Hence, a newbie should get into an internship & get relevant practical experience. With this experience in hand, one can apply for jobs afterwards. It is always good to start the career step by step as the chances to improve our skills will increase.

Digital media especially Social media channels such as Facebook can eat up a lot of your productive time if not used wisely. Do you agree? What all can one do to efficiently leverage these channels for personal growth?

Sumit Mukherjee: Yes I agree. Social media channels are a huge platform for starting any business, getting information about job, getting connected to companies, and also for creating brand awareness. It’s true that excess of anything is bad. While social media channels are an important component of digital marketing domain, they can waste your time if not used optimally. Moreover, you can personalize your newsfeed on the basis of your interest so that you don’t waste time.

If you were given a chance to rebuild your career, what changes you would have made to have even better growth and fulfilment?

Sumit Mukherjee: I wish I could have done this course much before I pursued my Graduation. This would let me get more opportunities and I would get more experience.

How do you see Digital Media evolving in future?

Sumit Mukherjee: Digital Marketing will become more mature in the future. Right now, many companies are at this stage where they have not discovered the true potential of digital marketing.
