Ministry Of External Affairs Tops The Chart In Terms Of Social Media Success

The reach of social media has successfully spread out to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), also familiarized as the Foreign Ministry – which is one of the major ministries and Government departments. The MEA has marked its social presence on all the leading social media marketing platforms viz. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+, thus reflecting that social media is the key tool for communication.

All the aforesaid digital marketing platforms which are extremely famous with the people today have reflected through their whooping number of responses that Ministry of External Affairs tops the chart in terms of social media success, leaving behind rest of the Government departments and ministries. The first and foremost striking number is that of around 2.76 lakh followers on Ministry of External Affairs Twitter handle @IndianDiplomacy. It seems that the popularity quotient of Twitter is on the rise with the Foreign Ministry as besides the aforesaid Twitter handle, there is another Twitter handle @MEAIndia, with 1.98 lakh followers that is run by Syed Akbaruddin, ministry’s official spokesperson. Leaping behind is yet another Twitter handle for consular, passport and visa issues viz. @CPVIndia  that has approximately 3,500 followers.

Interestingly, Ministry of External Affairs’ official Facebook page has moved ahead in the race by beating other ministries entailing the maximum number of likes viz. 6.82 lakh.

The success story of Ministry of External Affairs on social media platforms does not end here and that is because the presence of Indian Diplomacy on YouTube’s official channel has got as many as 16,500 subscribers having 4.2 million views. Not only this, there are 6,100 subscribers and about 5.5 lakh views on MEAIndia’s YouTube channel.

One of the Government official stated:

“Social media has emerged as a major communication medium directly with people. A high number of Facebook likes and Twitter followers shows that people want to be directly in touch with the government.”

Besides the Ministry of External Affairs, the other ministries that have marked their presence on the social media platforms are –the Home Ministry with 2.37 lakh followers on Twitter and the the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting with over 2.2 lakh followers. Apart from the aforesaid Ministries, there are still in the process of marking their presence on the social media platforms. However, the Urban Development, New and Renewable Energy and Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation have got subsidiary presence on one of the social media platform viz. Facebook.
