Step 3: Plan your Content

Start with writing a great blog post

By now you have a well-made list of blog topics and ideas to start producing your content around. You can also start producing content in a different medium – written, video and infographics. Do not forget to define your unique voice.

Do check on other blogs who are trying to solve the same problem. Understand how the are communicating, which tone and style they are using and find out HOW YOU CAN BE DIFFERENT AND STAND OUT AMONGST THEM!

Based on time availability, plan those blog posts realistically. For a brand new blogger, a realistic goal will be to start by publishing one blog each week and with a month’s time increase this to 3 blogs in 2 weeks.

  • Pick a keyword to target in your blog post. Simply choose a word you’ll use a few times in your blog post so people can actually find it (and… it makes it completely worth it to write the post in the first place).
  • Have a headline that scores above a 70 with this headline analyzer. Try a how-to, list, or question as your headline.
  • Concentrate on your blog starting to really lead your readers into the rest of your post.
  • Make sure the body of your post is around 1,500 words long. The Long form of content is by far the best content that results in traffic, social media shares, and search engine results.
  • Break up long stretches of text with images, graphics, and Click To Tweet boxes.
  • Conclude the post by recapping what you said, and suggest what your reader should do next.

By starting your blog with a realistic schedule you’ll:

  • Stick to your resolution to blog.
  • Give yourself time to research your blogging questions when they come up.
  • Develop healthy and effective blogging habits (rather than the holy-crap-it’s-time-to-publish-what-should-I-write-about reactive approach to blogging).
  • Prevent yourself from getting so stressed that you’d rather stop blogging
