Step 5: Setup Systems That will Help You Reach 1,000 Readers

Time to Grow Your Audience

By now you have got your first 100 subscribers. If you haven’t, get them before we proceed further. It is extremely difficult to motivate yourself to blog if you don’t have an audience. It is like talking to an empty auditorium with just one or two people in the corners!

Now it is time to set the systems in such a way that you are on your way to a 1,000 subscribers. The system will take care of the audience aggregation and you would just need to focus on writing good content and promoting it.

Convert Your Visitors Into Subscribers:

1. Collect Email IDs Using Lightbox Popups

Lightbox popups are un-blockable popups which will get email IDs of your visitors.

You should ethically bribe your page visitors to get their email IDs. You should give away a free ebook, a free email course, a seat in your webinar or something of value which doesn’t cost you anything to give away.

Once you do that, you will be able to convert anywhere from 5-10% of your visitors into subscribers.

audience for your blog 1

Here’s some interesting math: If you convert at 5% and if you are getting 100 visitors to your blog per day, that means 5 subscribers per day. 150 a month and 1,800 in a year!

In the first few months it doesn’t make much difference but this is all automatic.

If you have 1,000 readers in 3-6 months, you are all set to become a successful blogger!

There are many paid and free tools to create optin popups on your site. MailMunch andSumoMe are two tools which offer such tools for free.

2. Drive Traffic to Landing Page from the Blog

Landing pages are great ways to generate leads (or subscribers). But the difficult part is: it is not easy to drive traffic to landing pages. Usually it would cost money and it is hard to optimize a landing page for top ranking in the search engines. However it is free to convert your blog visitors into landing page traffic.

This is as simple as linking to your landing page from the various parts of your blog. Here are some ideas to drive traffic to your landing page from your blog:

  • Get a free header notification bar and link to the landing page (check out this free wordpress plugin)
  • Create a banner and link to the landing page from the sidebar of your blog.
  • Have a link or banner leading to the landing page after every post in your blog.

Get creative and drive more traffic to your landing page!

3. Have Option Boxes in More Places

Lightbox popups and landing pages will take care of converting a lot of visitors into subscribers (provided that you present them with a compelling offer). However, there are other opportunities that you shouldn’t miss.

You can add optin boxes in the following places:

  • Blog’s sidebar
  • After the post box
  • In-between content
  • Floating header or footer bar
  • Slide-in boxes from the sides
