One of the success factors of a Facebook group is its growing membership. If your public or closed group does not get around 500 authentic members in reasonable time, its chances of survival reduce dramatically.
Some of the guidelines for adding new members are:
- Do not add persons without their permission
Ask people before you add them. Otherwise, just let the group grows organically. Put out messages on your own personal timeline that introduce the group. Also, leverage hashtags.
- Check new members before allowing them access to the group
Only admit new members to the group manually after you have checked out their profile! This is one way to prevent spammers from getting in to your group.
Suggestions
If your initial network has not reached 500 people in reasonable time, find another friend and launch together. Make them a group admin too. It is much more fun launching a group with several people than having to do all the work on your own.
