Step 11: Create Website Pages and their Navigation System

Create Dummy Home page & other pages and set the website Menu

Why & What

WordPress allows you to create your website’s navigation menu in easy steps. Depending on your theme, you can create a Primary Menu and possibly a secondary menu. You can also create any number of custom menus in the widget area of your page. Note that only the Primary Menu is properly accessible in a mobile environment.

To design your navigation system, you need to have already created the web pages that would be linked to the menu items.

While creating the website pages, be aware of the permalinks for the page for SEO purposes. For example, a page about Culinary Herbs should have the title “Culinary Herbs”, its permalink should be “” and the top-level heading should be “Culinary Herbs.”

For business website, the Home page is normally a static page. It also requires additional setting so that should be redirected to

Steps to Follow

At the Dashboard page, go to Pages > Add New.

Enter Home as the title.

The page permalink is displayed:

Note that you can edit the permalink any time — now or later.

Click Publish.

Go to Settings > Reading. Check A static page and then select Home in Front page.

Click Save Changes.

Note that this setup is only for the Home page.

Create other three pages — Culinary Herbs page, Medicinal Page, and Ornamental Herbs page.

Next, click Appearance > Menus. The Menus page appears showing the Edit Menus tab.

Enter the name of the Main Menu (for example, Top Menu) and click Create Menu.

In the Pages list, select the pages that should be linked to the new menu. Then, click Add to Menu.

The selected pages appear in the Menu Structure list:

Drag and drop to rearrange the pages as required. Click Save Menu.

Move to the Manage Locations tab.

You see only one menu option since the Fruitful theme supports only one menu.

Select Top Menu and click Save Changes.

If you open the website, you will see that the menu has been added and you can navigate to different pages.
