Kalyanaraman Subramanian has 16 years of experience in Business Development, Marketing and Sales in different business verticals and in different countries. As he could smell the world of marketing is not going to be same and digital marketing is going to be the buzz word Kalyanaraman started gathering knowledge on Digital Marketing from 2015 onward.
Which course of Digital Vidya you participated in? How did it help you acquire new skills related to digital marketing?
Kalyanaraman: I did my Masters in Digital Marketing from Digital Vidya as I participated in the Certified Digital Marketing Master (CDMM) Course and the curriculum and the structure of education opened up a new avenue of marketing process thinking in me as I learned for the first time that each penny spent on Digital Marketing can be tracked and can be trimmed compared to non-digital marketing.
Why did you choose Digital Vidya’s course?
From 2015 February onward I have been reviewing various online and offline courses for Digital Marketing and the reviews & responses were by far the best from Digital Vidya. Hence chose to join. I think it was a good decision.
How has the course contributed in your career growth including new job opportunities?
Kalyanaraman: I have a lot of experience in marketing and have full time international masters from Anglia Ruskin University, UK and was confident legitimate hands on course will sharpen my skills and value by ten folds. Since I was keen to join only a startup company as part of my ethical thinking, I landed up in a vibrant start up as Director Marketing after the course.
Why do you think it’s important to learn Digital marketing today?
Kalyanaraman: If you have some vision to grow in the corporate ladder in marketing, fulfilling that vision may not be possible without knowing Digital marketing in this digital world order. You have to be updated to excel in this world of cut throat competition.
Share about the benefits you can foresee about building a career in Digital marketing industry?
Kalyanaraman: There are more than 1.5 lacs jobs expected to be created in DM field in 2016 and the numbers may only go up especially after the arrival of high speed internet. Those who are pursuing a career in marketing MUST gain knowledge and experience in DM if they are serious about life growth.
How do you stay updated on the latest trends in Digital marketing? Which are the Digital marketing resources (i.e. blogs/websites/apps) you visit regularly?
Kalyanaraman: I stay updated by going through the webinars of Digital Vidya apart from following various technical bloggers on Twitter.
Which are your favourite 3 digital media channels (e.g. Twitter, Google etc) and why?
Kalyanaraman: Always my first and foremost digital media channel is Facebook, 2nd is Twitter and third is LinkedIn.

Kalyanaraman: I use SEMrush for SEO, Buffer for scheduling my posts in Facebook and Twitter and Good AdWords for SEM.
Share the names of 3 people you respect when it comes to Digital Marketing.
Kalyanaraman: One person I respect a lot is Mr. Pradeep Chopra, CEO of Digital Vidya because he has inspired thousands of people to learn Digital Marketing. Another person I respect a lot is Mr. Karanam Sreekanth who happened to take classes for us and have lot of gimmicks under the sleeves for any digital marketing situation. Third person I respect is Deepak Kanakaraju (Digital Deepak) who was the first reason for me turning my attention on Digital Marketing though his blogs.
What is your advice to newbies who want to build career in Digital Marketing?
Kalyanaraman: Don’t come to this field if you want to earn a ton from the first month. Hands on experience is the key and if they could struggle for one or two years and keep learning the new trends in Digital Marketing combined with fluency in language skills sky is the limit in say 5 years’ time.
What are the challenges a person is likely to face when s/he enters into Digital Marketing industry? How can s/he overcome those?
Kalyanaraman: The one and only challenge is implementation of what is learned in class rooms. Even though there might have been live assignments being done, everything may seem new to them. Better to be ready to embrace the field with an open mind and with a lot of inquisitiveness to ask doubts in various forums and keep moving. Never hesitate to accept challenge. Take it and then work backwards even if you do not know.
For someone who’s looking at full time or part time job or an internship in Digital Marketing, what approach would you advice?
Kalyanaraman: I would suggest approaching Ad firms if they are serious about knowledge development. Even though remuneration will be less and working hours more, they will be able to grasp things quicker and in a short span of time can become masters in Digital Marketing to search for heavenly avenues in India and abroad especially in Singapore.
Digital media especially Social media channels such as Facebook can eat up a lot of your productive time if not used wisely. Do you agree? What all can one do to efficiently leverage these channels for personal growth?
Kalyanaraman: There are two sides everything like a coin. If someone is serious about career building, it is better they become members of various social media marketing groups and start with watching the discussions taking place and slowly become part of it instead of wasting time on social media posting craps.
If you were given a chance to rebuild your career, what changes you would have made to have even better growth and fulfilment?
Kalyanaraman: I am a classic example of rebuilding career where reshaped my career after gaining experience of 16 years because I could smell it out that if I do not take the risk of developing my knowledge base in Digital marketing, I will be lost forever. What I would suggest to those trying to rebuild career is do not look only from monetary point of view and rebuild your career which gives you happiness and passion for going to office every day.
How do you see Digital Media evolving in future?
Kalyanaraman: Every industry is turning to DM because they see dual advantage of cost saving and better reach. Paper ads will be dead soon and even papers are becoming digital. There is only going to be Digital media in future and the introduction of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality is going to be the buzz word of the future. Companies are all eager to embrace VR and AR and digital marketing will be embedded with VR and AR in near future for sure.
