Shobhana Rochwani is a Digital Marketing Specialist in a US based MNC named Prohaktiv Inc. She started her career as a Business Development Executive but then switched to email marketing. After doing my course with Digital Vidya I learned all modules of digital marketing and got an opportunity to work as an advertising specialist in a marketing agency. Now my profile is of Digital Marketing Specialist in which I take care of Advertising, Social Media, Blogging, analytics and much more for various clients.
Which course of Digital Vidya you participated in? How did it help you acquire new skills related to digital marketing?
Shobhana: I participated in the Certified Digital Marketing Master (CDMM) Course. The course comprises six modules – Email Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Inbound Marketing, Search Engine Marketing, Search Engine Optimization, and Web Analytics.

Shobhana: Best part of making a career in digital marketing is the flexibility you get in your work. It is not office or location specific job and in this world of dynamicity you can’t just work for 9hours and expect exponential growth. This profile gives you freedom to work from where you want to and when you want to. And by this you can have multiple income sources which is very necessary in todays world.
How do you stay updated on the latest trends in Digital Marketing? Which are the Digital Marketing resources (i.e. blogs/websites/apps) you visit regularly?
Shobhana: Google alerts about digital marketing helps me keep up with everyday updates. Other than that I follow Neil Patel, Jon loomer, Avinash Kaushik and many more for their blogs. Twitter has also been very helpful for me to read and share content with the like-minded people. Other than this my favorite is Yourstory.com to get motivation through different entrepreneurs and their success stories.

What is your advice to newbies who want to build career in Digital Marketing?
Shobhana: If you think digital is the right choice for you then just get into it right now as this is the best time to grow with this growing industry. Be ready to learn everyday as this is very dynamic field.
What are the challenges a person is likely to face when s/he enters into Digital Marketing industry? How can s/he overcome those?
Shobhana: I feel you need to have knowledge of digital marketing in a 360 degree kinda way because all the things are interdependent and interconnected. To be efficient in your work you have to be on your toes to know about all the new things coming up everyday. Just keep a habit of reading and collaborating with other people in this space to be relevant and growing.
For someone who’s looking at full time or part time job or an internship in Digital Marketing, what approach would you advice?
Shobhana: First get your basics clear about digital marketing through various study material present online. Then start any project by your own to put that learnings into action like blog or even a FB page. After that go for a full-time career option in it and there are many opportunities out there for digital today.
Digital media especially Social media channels such as Facebook can eat up a lot of your productive time if not used wisely. Do you agree? What all can one do to efficiently leverage these channels for personal growth?
Shobhana: Yes, today social media takes up most of our time online. I would say there is too much content out there so please be selective in what you see and read as it affects you a lot. Select the channel that is good for your growth and learning and be present there frequently. But other social media channels just browse through them to be aware of what’s happening in the world.
If you were given a chance to rebuild your career, what changes you would have made to have even better growth and fulfillment?
Shobhana: As this is almost start of my career I feel I have not reached that point till now where I can answer this question. By far I am happy with the way my career has taken place. I have made mistakes but I don’t want to change them as they were the real learnings I got and I would treasure them for future references.
How do you see Digital Media evolving in future?
Shobhana: Despite so much value it brings the usage is still less if we see across all industries. I feel it is going to spread in all sectors as it can give better reach and leads to all the products/ services. And definitely it is there to stay as usage of internet is going to increase in the future.
Would you like to share few words about the work we are doing at Digital Vidya in educating others about Digital Marketing?
Digital marketing is growing so rapidly but still there are comparatively less awareness about it in SMEs which I feel can be overcome by the work you guys are doing. More the students of digital marketing more will be the awareness about it in all the sectors & industries.
