7 Ways To Direct Organic Traffic To Your Affiliate Website

Rate this post

Taking the advantage of the continuous improvements in modern technologies, there is hardly any business that doesn’t rely on digital marketing for its revenue generation. According to Gartner’s Digital Marketing Spend Report, 40% claimed saving considerably via digital marketing techniques.

No digital marketing expert would deny how affiliate marketing is becoming one of the best moneymaking techniques and how it is still on a steady move. Affiliate marketing basically works on associations. For instance, I have an affiliation website and you want me to post your website links on my site so that the traffic is directed onto your website. In return, you will have to pay me a commission or referral fee. Affiliate marketing or associate marketing works on a win-win-win model wherein all the three parties i.e. the merchant site, the affiliate site and the consumer are happy.  It is one of the fastest and efficient ways of spreading word about your website as you have to pay according to the traffic and sales you gain. This concept of affiliate marketing was made famous by Amazon.com that now has more than 500,000 affiliation websites for spreading information about them.

You can earn more money online through affiliation websites by attracting the unpaid audience. Organic traffic is the free traffic that lands on your website from search engines like Google and Bing. The principle of attracting organic traffic to affiliation site works on similar lines as that of any other website i.e. Search Engine Optimization (SEO). The two core principles to be considered are:

  1. Make it easy for both users and search engines to find your site.
  2. Generate signals for the purpose of building authority, trust and traffic data.

Now let us examine on how we can generate organic traffic on an affiliated website in a short duration of time.

1. Construct your website:

Obviously, the first step is to create an affiliation site using either WordPress or any other website creating domain. Since keywords play a major role in SEO and gaining the organic traffic, it is important to work around keywords for content strategy.

2. Enhance your site and its pages:

Once you made your site live, the point to be considered is how to make it easier for both users and search engines to access your website. The points to be considered for the same are:

  • Start with publishing new content daily based on keyword research. This will boost the chances of search engines to index, recrawl and improve the ranking of your pages.
  • Authorship Markup: Assigning web content an author not only increases the trust relationship between the page and its users but also helps the site to gain a better ranking since it gains extra points under panda algorithm. The reader finds it easy to search for the author of a specific article with a click.
  • SEO techniques: You need to have familiarity with both on-site and off-site SEO techniques for having a better rank of your page. On-site SEO techniques are those which can be done ‘ON’ your website page, for instance, title, meta description, tags etc to improve the ranking of your pages in search engines. Whereas off-site techniques are the ones that are done ‘OFF’ from your site in order to increase the ranking of your page. Social networking sites, blogging, back linking, sharing photos etc can help you improve the ranking of your website and inner pages.

3. Building strong and valid signals:

To be easily found by both search engines and users, you need to build appropriate signals like linking within the blogs for authentication or having social shares button (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram etc) so that you can spread the word about your website and pages among the masses. Search engines like Google and Bing have started to take into consideration the social links as well.  The points which are considered here are:

  1. The number of tweets and retweets a URL has.
  2. The authority of the person tweeting it.
  3. The number of facebook shares a URL has.
  4. Your presence on Google is influenced by Google plus for some obvious reasons. Be consistent on spending your day on Google plus to create an awareness about your brand on Google plus communities. Create content that is worthy of being ranked high in search engines.

Hacks on how you can increase social shares:

  1. Day hack: If you post on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, the probability of getting more social shares is higher.
  2. Time hack: If you post content on your website at 9 am, 12 pm, 3 pm or 6 pm, the likelihood of getting great shares increases manifold.
  3. Questioning trick: Users are more likely to comment, like or share your content if you engage them with a question.
  4. Voting poll works: Getting voters’ poll on your website increases the likelihood of liking your URL by 400%.

4. Analytics Search Traffic Data and re-optimize your page accordingly:

After setting the foundation of the website, you can then extract data from Google Analytic’s search traffic data that could help you to gain insight on the keywords that have high rates of engagement. Finding such keywords depend upon the following basis:

  • The average duration of visit
  • The percentage of fresh users

You can identify these keywords that help you gain traffic and incorporate them in titles, meta descriptions and internal links for enhancing your website again. This helps you to gain traffic to already popular web pages.

5. Guest blogging:

It is an incredible way of increasing traffic to your site. Guest blogging helps in showcasing your content to a fresh audience. However, it doesn’t have much value when compared with SEO value. There are some points you need to cater to while guest posting:

  • Target for authoritative websites with high-quality content.
  • Posting as a guest on popular website for gaining traffic on your affiliate website will not mean anything if you are not reaching your target audience.
  • Interaction is the key: As a guest blogger, you would want their visitors to become yours. For that matter, you will have to get back on your content, check it and respond to them in order to build a great social relationship.

6. Don’t mess with Google:

Google is the one that feeds you. If you don’t follow its guidelines or protocols then surely you will get hit by this search engine giant. Increasing organic traffic ethically will prove to be a reliable way in a long run:

  • Avoid building cheap links.
  • Always try to publish unique, fresh and meaningful content.
  • Paying for inbound links is something you should always avoid.

7. Track the process:

You did everything to gain organic traffic to your affiliate site but without properly tracking your process, all your efforts will go in vain. You need to keep in mind few points which are:

  • Add more and more of unique content on your site on a regular basis so that you are not just limited to few keywords but targeting more keywords that send traffic and leads to your site.
  • Increase the number of inner pages on your website. This increases the opportunities for having more keywords and hence more traffic to your site.
  • When you grow pages and reframe your website and its pages, it helps the search engines to track the continuous changes you are making your sites and hence improves the ranking of the pages.

With all these hierarchical steps applied successfully, you could see the improvement in the organic traffic to your affiliation site in a short duration of time.

      Hi Sakshi,

I agree to all the points you shared on this post. While bringing paid traffic is easy however, optimising your website and content to attract free (organic) traffic is where your experience and skills plays an important role. Great post.

      Best,
