Interview with Mithun Manohar, Digital Marketing Participant

Mithun Manohar worked in the Purchase/Supply chain for a period of 2 years and worked in sales for a period of 1.3 years. The reason that led him to start a career in Digital Marketing was the need to understand Consumer behaviour. With the digital revolution, a majority of the consumers have shifted to digital mediums. He further says that to have a 360 understanding of consumer behaviour, one needs to look deeper in the digital world.

Which course of Digital Vidya did you participate in? How did it help you acquire new skills related to digital marketing?

Mithun Manohar: I took the CPDM course which helped me to gain practical knowledge about digital marketing and its various channels along with perfect strategies for execution.

Mithun Manohar: The major for choosing Digital Vidya’s course was that it was convenient and cost-effective. Moreover, the online mode of delivery was an additional factor that grabbed my attention as I did not want to attend an online classroom institute.

How has the course contributed in your career growth including new job opportunities?

Mithun Manohar: I have just started an internship in an agency. However, optimistic about the future & looking for career progression.

Why do you think it’s important to learn Digital Marketing today?

Mithun Manohar: More people are online than offline due to the Digital Revolution. Thus, it becomes necessary for a business to understand their consumer base and the platforms they are in. This will help them to easily connect with their target audience and make them aware of the ideas and innovation that the businesses are providing.

Mithun Manohar: The marketing pattern has changed dynamically. More consumers are online and it is necessary for a business to have a presence in the digital world to stay in the competition. As such the demand for skilled digital marketers has also increased considerably. Furthermore, there is flexibility in work and ways to start on your own with minimal cost is an attractive benefit.

How do you stay updated on the latest trends in Digital Marketing? Which are the Digital Marketing resources (i.e. blogs/websites/apps) you visit regularly?

Mithun Manohar: The best way to stay updated on the latest trends in Digital Marketing is to conduct thorough research and consistent reading. However, try to read websites like MOZ and SEMRUSH to keep yourself updated about the latest digital marketing trends.

Which is your favourite digital media channel (e.g. Twitter, Google etc) and why?

Mithun Manohar: Google. The reason being information is fast and customized. Variety of analytical tools gives us clarity on information about consumers and competition.

Which are your 3 favourite Digital Marketing Tools?

Mithun Manohar: Keyword Research Tool, Google Analytics and Facebook business

What is your advice to newbies who want to build a career in Digital Marketing?

Mithun Manohar: I still am a newbie who wants to build my career in digital marketing. The only advice that I can give at this moment that people who want to build a career in Digital Marketing should keep themselves with the latest trends and practice a lot.

What are the challenges a person is likely to face when s/he enters into the Digital Marketing industry? How can s/he overcome those?

Mithun Manohar: The major pressure that Digital Marketers go through is not getting conversions. Another challenge that they face is lack of practical experience. Thus, to overcome this continuously experiment with new ad copies in Google Ads. Observe clicks and costs. Try all types of marketing tactics after observing the pattern of consumer integrations.

For someone who’s looking at full time or part-time job or an internship in Digital Marketing, what approach would you advise?

Mithun Manohar: Put your profile on LinkedIn, try to get into an advertising agency as an intern. Do not go for a single product or service-based firm initially even if the pay is good. Have a long term plan.

If you were given a chance to rebuild your career, what changes you would have made to have even better growth and fulfilment?

Mithun Manohar: If I got a chance to rebuild my career, I would have taken digital marketing as a career when I was 24 years old. Would have started working in an agency and slowly moved to a bigger firm and by 30 or 35 would have started on my own.

How do you see Digital Media evolving in future?

Mithun Manohar: Digital Media is all set to rock the next decade as well. Podcasts are replacing search results. Priority is given to unique voice over highly searched words.  Twitter may become a platform for major communication and brand building.
