How did you get into Digital Marketing? What interested you in learning Digital Marketing?
Jitendra: I got digital marketing by my friend. I had done engineering in IT stream but engineering was not keen interest area. I just wasted 4 years of my life in doing engineering. I learned nothing there except to be a depressed person in my life. I just googled about SEO as my friend told me and then I finally grabbed my first job. I got keen interest in digital marketing as there was no coding knowledge required there. I hate coding too much. I am exploring a lot of areas in digital marketing like affiliate, CPA & lot others.
According to you, what are the advantages of conventional marketing over Digital Marketing? Do you think that Digital Marketing is a threat to the future of conventional marketing?
Jitendra: Digital marketing has a lot of advantages over conventional marketing as digital has opened gates to a lot of brands who are looking to get noticed in this noisy digital world. The world of digital marketing continues to evolve and as long as technology continues to advance, digital marketing will as well. Examples of digital marketing include things like websites, social media mentions, YouTube videos and banner ads. Specifically, digital marketing is similar to traditional advertising, but using digital devices. Print media & other traditional marketing stuff is getting extinct slowly. I would say digital is a threat to traditional marketing for sure as folks are getting too much addicted to digital devices & they want everything in their hands. Digital is making possible by giving every minute details at their doorstep.
Share about your 3 favorite Digital Marketing case studies. What did you like most about them?
Jitendra: I would like to share a case study of my last company where I used to work Zopper.com. You can get detailed case study here: http://jitendra.co/case-studies/. When I used to work with Zopper.com my last job, their traffic was very low and they hadn’t done any kind of SEO for their main site & blog. When I joined them, I improved their site structure and suggested what changes they needed in their main site according to Google webmaster guidelines. If you don’t follow proper Google webmaster rules then your site will not rank higher in Google. Their traffic was 6000-7000 per day, our team took to around 30k per day in 3-4months through SEO & social media marketing. I used to take care of their blog too and through blog, I was able to increase traffic on the main site. Content was the key here and I had a plan for content marketing & it worked very well.
According to you, what are the top 3 mistakes committed by organizations today in leveraging Digital Marketing?
- Too much focus on traditional marketing
- Spending less on social media marketing
- Getting wrong employees & recruitments strategy
Between Agency and In-house, which approach would you recommend for maximum value of Digital Marketing? Why?
Jitendra: I think both are good in their own way. Depends from the person-to-person’s requirements. I am running my own business & I have a virtual team, mostly. Choosing a virtual team is sometimes very difficult and you need to find a good virtual team as most of the freelancers show very careless attitude. So in some cases, I would prefer hiring in-house team as you can keep a watch on your team and workflow can be maintained.
